Usually, a person would say "I'm feeling blue", not "I feel like the color blue".

"Feeling blue" means that you are sad, just as you said..

The expression is "I'm blue," or "I feel blue" or "I've got the blues." Blue is considered a sad, cool colour, so it reflects sadness of soul.
"The blues" is a type of music, as I'm sure you know (el blues en español)--most of the songs are about infidelity or people who treat their lover badly, but the lover can't stop loving them.

'I am feeling blue' it means you are sad. We say we are 'blue' because blue is a cold colour and because of the 'Blues' which is a music genre which is about sad things which happen. It is a slang word 'blue'.
