Everyone who rear-ends someone else in a pileup gets charged! They had to be following too close in order to pile up in the first place.

The second and forth cars are the ones that get charged . The second car hit the first car, the forth car hit the third car, The third car is the only one with a way out. it was hit by the forth car pushing it into the second car. Of course the first car is in the clear also. Ok now look at it this way car four hit car three and it hit car two and it hits car one, so in this case car four would be charged. That's why D.P S investigates wrecks. Who did what when.

It depends on how the accident happened.
1) The 4th car hits the 3rd car, knocking the 3rd into the 2nd and the 2nd into the 1st. Then the 4th car gets the only ticket.
2) The 2nd car hits the 1st car; then the 3rd car hits the 2nd car; then the 4th car hits the 3rd car. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cars get tickets.
Basically, if your car is pushed into someone else's car, then you won't get a ticket. But, if you hit another car without someone else hitting yours first, you'll get a ticket.

This happened to me. My insurance co went after the guy that hit me, even though it was someone else who pushed him into me.
His car did the damage. I assume HIS ins. co. went after the next guy and so on.
I had damage to my boat, boat trailer, hitch, car and me. It cost someone a FORTUNE!
