The European/south American sport system is different from ours. In the US the pro leagues use the colleges as a farm system. Once a player attends college and gets some experience then a US pro team will sign the best one. So they get some what of an Education. In Europe and south America pro sports is just considered a job like any other and should be started as soon as possible. Any education is the players responsibility as when Pele got his degree after many years of pro soccer.

Well, I guess they would have had education in elementary school and probably secondary education. But a lot of post-secondary institutions accept athletes, even if their marks are mediocre, for the sake of success in inter-college or -university competitions.

Chances are that during their athletic careers, they won't have enough time to complete a degree in architecture or medicine. =)

some do... like pippo inzaghi.. he was really good in school and im pretty sure he got a full education... so did his brother
