I feel for you. I have something similar. I have Colitis. I've had it for the last four months and it's my living nightmare. I've seen a doctor and surgeon for it. I also have gastritis right now. They gave me pain killer which I won't take cause those medications cause constipation (I have been hospitalized with blockages over 20times cause of the colitis and blockages). They even took my gallbladder out before determining it was colitis. They stated the same B.S. that you've probably heard from more surgery to "Really the only thing we can give you is steroids or inflammatory pills."
I decided to do my own research, last month I found a company called serovera. I'm not going to lie, the supplements cost around 165.00 a bottle. When I researched the companies that sold this product, I spoke with one person who has ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. She stated, "Even if you don't buy from our company, buy the product it works." In the end I went with another company, they sent me information, brochures, and a cd with scientific documentation for this supplement. I spoke with both of my doctors concerning the supplement (general practice and a internal medicine-holistic doctor). Both read the scientific information and told me to try it. It's been four weeks this week and my colitis is calming down. I started incorporating chicken in my diet for the first time in four months. The company will also send you a chart to track your daily digestive functions, which they will want you to send back. They also send you a sheet on what foods to eat and not to eat for gastrointestinal problems (ranging from IBS to Colitis, ulcerative colitis, etc.) Unlike most supplements or vitamins, these will ACTUALLY HEAL the colon and intestines. It has shrunk cancer tumors in people, helped HIV patients, etc. But it's primary function is to help patients with problems like us. You don't have to be on it forever, and after your first bottle you get a discount. I just ordered my second, it's the ONLY thing working for me, and I'm not going into surgery again. You don't have to take it forever. I think their website is www.serovera.com It should have a white bottle with a green label. Please email if you have more questions or just want to talk about it. I hope you have seriously changed you diet, that is key with colitis problems of all sorts. I wish you well and know your pain, hang in there!

Read "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" by Elaine Gottschall There is a yahoo support group for it too. She used the study of a doctor and created a diet that helped heal her child's ulcerative colitis.

If you're into mind/body medicine, Louise Hay says Colitis has to do with "Insecurity. Represents the ease of letting go that which is over. Holding on to the past. Fear of letting go."

No cure, but you have not yet had any decent treatment. Seek a gastroenterologist and quit the nonsense.
