how do you create a shortcut on your desktop for shutdown?

You only have to click Start and then Shut down, do you really need a shortcut?

Right click the desktop and then click New then Shortcut. Type the following in the "Location" text area:
shutdown /s

That will initiate a shutdown, if you want to restart use /r instead of /s.
