I have a friend who owns a wolf santuary here where I live. I'll get right back to you after getting an answer on captive wolf lifespans. Sky can tell you for sure, my understanding is that 14 to 16 years is the average life span, but that doesn't mean that your wolf can't live longer with good care.

In the meantime, here is Sky's website

She could give you tips on looking after older wolves as her wolves are with her for life.

I'm pretty sure, around 10 years ago, you could keep a red wolf by obtaining a special license? Maybe they weren't endangered, or as endangered, back then as they are now? Can't jump to conclusions with the little bit of info provided.

Red wolf?? Highly endangered, only about 100 in the wild, wonder how you got one legally....- Mammologists are debating now whether they are extinct or not due to hybridization with Coyotes. Read several papers on it last semester.

The oldest I have seen a captive timber wolf is 16 yrs
