CLOSE folks, but not quite.
W-2's must be SENT by the employer by January 31. Strangely, 1099's get until mid-February to be sent out. Don;t RUSH to the empoyer's door on February 1. Let the mail come to you. In fact, the IRS advises to wait until at least Feb 15 to contact the employers.

Not soon enough! My job that I work outside of the home waits until the last day of January to mail out the W2s so that means, I usually get mine around February 2 or 3rd.

I know without a doubt you can file with a paystub after the 15th of Feb, so I would assume all w2's should be mailed by that date.

Federal law sees to it that your employers, or ex employers mail your W2 by the 2nd of February. However, if you still work there, most places will give it to you with the pay check closest to that date. You may also use you last pay stub from each job for 2006 to file.

Employer's have to have W-2s postmark by Jan. 31st at the latest. I would allow 2 or 3 weeks past this.

They must be mailed by Jan 31st. If your employer makes the deadline, you should see them by the end of the first week of Feb.

By law, they have to be postmarked by Jan. 31st. Most employers usually wait as long as they can, because postage costs money, and that extra few days of interest on that money matters to the bean counters.
