I think we can tell them apart.

And Karl must be confusing USC receivers with Michigan running backs in the NFL.

NO, there are two Roy Williams in the NFL and there used to be Two James Stewarts in the NFL.

You will be able to tell them apart by what teams they are on. and if they happen to be on the same team then by there Jersey numbers. Plus the Steve Smith at USC is taller than the Steve Smith for the panthers so that would be a third way.

well maybe he could go with steven smith. like in basketball there was Jason Williams (heat now, Grizzlies at the time) and Jayson Williams (formerly of the nets, but then in trial for killing his butler) so Jason Williams out of Duke changed his name to Jay Williams, then drafted by the bulls, and of course then got in a motorcycle accident. He mostly changed his because of the murder trial of Jayson williams. So Steve Smith could be known as Steven, since they are both wideouts and all, it could confuse. Imagine if the panthers pick him.

The same way that we distinguished the Ricky Williams of University of Texas from the Ricky Williams of Texas Tech.

It won't present a problem. One will obviously be much more talented and recognizable.

Oh yeah and they play for different teams.

There will also be two Adrian Petersons if the Oklahoma RB declares for the draft. It's no biggie.

Of course he's not going to want to change his name, and he won't have to.
there's really no need to change his name unless steve smith(usc) is going to be a big time receiver like the other 1, then there will be confusion in football topics

They will put Steve Smith on his jersey if he goes to the Panthers, if he goes somewhere else it will either be S.Smith, or just Smith.
