He's one of the most fascinating writers I've ever read. It's not just what he says, but the way he says it. To him, philosophy wasn't supposed to be a boring, purely academic exercise.
My opinion on his writings are really mixed. I think he made some brilliant insights, but these are sometimes overshadowed by his somewhat unquestioned idealization of power, "health", strength, mastery, etc. Recently, I've been thinking more about Nietzsche's comments on Romanticism as a disease or a sign of decay, and how these ideas really could apply to some of what he himself wrote. Recently I was reading about neurosis, and now think that the core of Nietzsche's ideas were even more affected by a morbid state of mind than I had previously thought.
I prefer his middle period works; his more aphoristic stuff vs. his later fixation on the Ubermensch, will to power, eternal recurrence, etc. I think what he has to say about artists and creation is very interesting.
There is just too much to write about him. I don't admire his writings as much as I once did, but I still think he is one of the most gifted stylists I've ever read with many very flawed ideas, but with also with some very compelling ideas on a range of topics.

I love Nietzsche. He was a realist. He took the religion out of philosophy and talked about things from a real human perspective. We can all relate to the human condition. We may not all relate to organized religion.

I really enjoyed reading his work even though he was totally twisted in my opinion. He had some interesting things to say. I wrote a paper on his philosophy and how it was portrayed in the first matrix movie. Actually all the Matrix movies are heavily rooted in the stuff he put out. Its really intersting. I'm not a nihlist (sp?) but its interesting to look at the world that way even if its only from a theoretical standpoint.

boring. self-absorbed. people like him who look for 'reasons' for self-empowerment. it's not like he had much to contribute. ah, now i feel guilty for bashing a continental when were all getting tired of analytic philosophy....
