1. Have you ever been king crab fishing? Ever been to the Bering Sea in winter?
2. You'll have to crew for at LEAST 5 years, just to have ANY idea what's going on, and that's a minimum.
3. Figure on taking out a loan for at least 1/2 million dollars just for startup money.
4. You better start following the politics of this fishery now, or you got no chance. There's a hell of a lot more going on than just picking crab pots.

A "skipper" is nothing but the owner/captain of the boat.
You want to be a skipper? Buy your own boat and hire a crew.
