The word queer although meant to mean 'gay', actually means feminine gendered. It is just that the society wants same-sex desires to be adjudged feminine. What better way to label it as such.
Likewise, although straight is used as a synonym for heterosexual, straight actually means 'masculine'. They only try to make heterosexuality seem inherently masculine by naming it as such.
In fact the entire idea that if you like men (exclusively) you're gay is flawed. Gay only refers to a feminine gendered male's liking for other guys. Otherwise most straight guys have a sexual thing for other guys, which is as strong, and sometimes stronger than their thing for girls. Only if the society will allow it.
Now to the question of 'queer'.
In my opinion the real queer thing is heterosexuality. This opinion is supported by views in the ancient world, where any contact with women was supposed to be emasculating/ effeminate behaviour.
Also in the wild mammalian world, the only male mammals to bond with the females are the queer, transgendered ones.
90% of all transgendered people are heterosexuals.
If you search for the word "queer heterosexual" you'd get several replies. They're growing by their numbers.
