My 4 mo. old got three shots this morning and now she's been sleeping for over 3 hours (which is not normal for her). Is it normal for a baby to be extra sleepy after her immunizations?

She wasn't given any tylenol (by me or the doc).

Yes it is normal. Some babies (the good ones) sleep through the pain and some babies (not so good ones) scream for hours after the shots. My baby slept an unusually long amount of time after her three month shots and she did that for three days. She slept around the clock pretty much.

Ughhh LOL my baby got his shots today too, 3 of them in the leg. Poor little baby's ha? I guess hes been wicked grumpy all day. Don't want to eat don't want to play just wants to fuss (dads at home with baby I'm at work) So I would consider your self lucky at this point. (we gave him Tylenol before the shots) I would think your daughter sleeping is normal as that is a painful thing for the baby's and it takes a lot out of them. let her sleep. Baby's know when they are tired! Shes wicked cute by the way! Congrats!

You can give her some tylenol. It will help if she gets a fever and for pain.I gave my 4 month old 1 ml half an hour before we went for shots. He is not much of a napper but he did the same and slept awesome,They say babies can either not sleep well after shots and some sleep even better!!You and I are the lucky ones!!Enjoy some quite time, she will probably be very hungry when she wakes!Good luck.

Yes, especially after these immunizations. She may also be more hungrier as well. Your pediatrician should have given you a list of things that may occur after the shots. Many babies develop a fever after immunizations. My daughter didn't get one, but I remember nursing her in the examination room right after her 4 month shots. The nurse told me it would help soothe her and that she might be really hungry right after the shot. She nursed more than usual that time and took a long nap after wards, but she was fine.

Yes. I have four children and all four slept for longer than normal. Especially if your baby cried a lot during and after...it's traumatic! They don't know what's going on. If your baby is still doing this tomorrow though, after a good night sleep,I'd give the doc a call. Can't hurt any.

Oh yes, you can bet your booty! She'll probably be sleepy for a couple days.

Lethargic and fevery is different, that should warrent a call to the doctor. Not eating is another problem.

Her immune system will be fighting and building antibodies to the vaccines, it will make her tired, cranky, and probably a touch more hungry than usual... or maybe no that hungry at all.

Yes, it can be normal for your baby to be sleepy after getting their immunizations, it stresses them out and that's how they cope with it. If you are able to wake her, then she is fine. If not, then I would get her to the ER asap! It could be a reaction, especially if accompanied by a fever.

Did you give her tylenol before the shots? This always make my kids sleepy.

Yes, and especially if they gave her Tylenol befor they did it. (Usually they do this. ) Keep an eye on her shot sites and watch for swelling. If she sleeps way past a feeding, try waking her up if you are really worried.

Yes it's normal. Just monitor her closely today and make sure she doesn't get a fever. Call her pediatrician if you get really concerned.
