This is the deal. I am a graphic designer, however, it's not my profession, I do it as a hobby. My real passion is actually fashion design. Recently I created a CD demo cover and back side for my boyfriend, who is an aspiring music artist. In the credits section I gave credit to everyone involved in the project, except me. It didn't bother me at first, but once I received the printed copies, I actually got very upset. He tells me not to worry because he will give me the credit should anyone ask who made the layout, and he does. But that doesn't help, it still bothers me every second and I start thinking all these things, and can't even enjoy being happy with him about this accomplishment because I keep thiking I should've put my name on the credits. I know this probably sounds bad, but I want to know your opinion. Am I being selfish?

Selfish? I don't think so. You merely want acknowledgement of what you did. Nothing unusual about that.

What MIGHT BE A PROBLEM is if you obsess over it! Don't let it control you. Learn from the experience. If more copies are made, then get your name on future copies! Or perhaps if you're selling them, tack on a little sticker on the CD advertising yer name or company name. If you mail the CDs, put a flyer in with the CD advertising your work.

Don't stress over it.

That is the definition of selfish is wanting your way, and what you are wanting here is to get recognition for something you did. At the same time I do understand your wanting to be recognized because as a lady that makes us feel important. Overall though I am sure your boyfriend never meant anything by not including your name. Some things we as women see as a problem, when a guy may not have ever gave it a second thought.

That was silly. Even the people who add the credits to the ends of movies and TV shows get to put their name in them. Don't blame anyone but yourself, and don't play the modest martyr next time.

To most people, credit is more important than profit -- just look at all the people releasing their work under Creative Commons.

On the bright side, if his album picks up, and/or he or any of his music buddies need album design in the future, he will recommend you to them. So you'll hopefully get another "chance" :)

I am graphic designer at a print/graphics shop, we like to have our credits almost everything that comes out of here, you have to, you need to keep your names on people's minds, it's not just credit that pleases the ego (though that is good) it's also business.

It wouldn't have been selfish to put your name on in the beginning but to ruin his glory moment because of a decision you made is a bit self-centered, sorry.

Learn from your mistake and next time make sure you credit yourself properly!

you are not being selfish, you should be proud of the work you do, any work you do. you should have just put you name on the cover "designed by..." you should never feel that any work you do whether it is for a friend, boyfriend, customer or whoever is not an accomplishment and you should be recognized for that accomplishment.

just a bit, you're just bothered by a small mistake that you made, i say that you should just be happy for him, and that you got to make the layout, and if it really bothers you that much, have them reprinted with your name in them

No, you did the work. I would be pissed if my name wasn't included. Even if he is your boyfriend he's being a jerk!
