Try to find teething tablets. They should be at any chain retailer in the baby section (around pacifiers, sippy cups, nail clippers, and that stuff). Or, they might be next to the Anbesol. If you are at a place (like a Walgreen's, they have them) ask the pharmacist to show you where they are. I've heard several people say they swear by them. They didn't really work for my daughter, but I'm the only person I know that didn't have luck with them, so they're worth a try. I always gave my daughter a washcloth that's been dipped in water and frozen. Of course, though, this gets messy when it melts.

My sister and I have sons that are 7 weeks apart...(now they are 11) She allowed hers to chew on her & the dad's fingers. I have been a Nanny for years and I learned to put 2-3 metal adult spoons into the fridge. So her son was a biter and they had the worse time of breaking him of that. My 2 of my children never had a problem with biting. Besides before that when I was a nanny of 3 I never had to deal with that eigther. Not saying it is perfect...It worked for me.
Also try to keep a spoon in icewater there is nothing sharp on a spoon. Baby spoons may get poked in the eye and the back (holding end) may be sharper than an adult spoon. And the larger size is easier for little fingers. Cold metal texture is good gum stimulation.
If you are not wanting to use spoons...put the teething rings into the fridge. Don't worry about if the rings break or spring a leak...They are filled with distilled water and they will not harm the child, carpet or upolsrty. The ones with the textured pylable plastics are good for gum stimulation as well.
Good Luck!! merjb

check with your pharmacist and your pediatrician (or their nurse practitioner). they should be able to give you some recommendations. the best is the teething ring or washcloth in the freezer, but it sounds like you have tried this and have been unsuccessful.
clove oil has been shown in studies to be an effective natural numbing agent. check the teething gel products in the baby aisle - some may even show this as an ingredient. if not, you should be able to get the essential oil at the pharmacist's counter. use only a tiny tiny tiny bit on a cotton swab and rub on the child's gums. essential oils are very strong and should be used only in the lowest possible amounts to avoid burns or worse.

Hyland's Teething Tablets (much better than Anbesol or Orajel)
keep a metal spoon in the freezer for baby to chew on
ice cube tied in a baby sock
ice cube or "boob cube" in a Baby Safe Feeder
stalk of cold, hard celery to chew on
wet and freeze a washrag
massage baby's gums with your fingers.....wearing one of those little "finger condom" looking infant toothbrushes while doing it can help too

There is a powder that they sale at fruit stands (mostly Asian fruit and veggie stands). That my mom used on me and I used it on my daughter (18months).
It stops the pain, fever and anything else associated with teething. I forgot the name, but if you ask a worker they will show you. It has a baby on it and the box is baby blue and white. It's small and has white and royal blue individual packets with a little powder.
My daughter has a mouth full of pearly white teeth it works and is not harmful to babies.

Why not cut an apple into pieces and give those to the baby. They will chew on them but not be able to swallow it. Plus any juice they get out of it is good for them. For an added treat try putting the apple pieces into the freezer before giving them to baby. Good luck

I'm not crazy, but go to an adult store and purchase some cherry flavored anal eze. I swear this works!!!!! I used it on my 2 year old, and it worked every time. You can find it in flavors besides cherry, but she preferred that.
Don't even worry with orajel or anything like that. It's useless.

You can do the washcloth trick....or you can get these little teething tablets at Wal-Mart. I've used them and they seem to work really good. You just put them in your babies mouth and they dissolve.
