I remember seeing something about how to make all sorts of anti-allergic cleaning products on this site:
http://www.allergyuk.org/allergy_mcshints.html

many involve mixes of vinegar and bicarb. If you're in the UK I discovered Wilkinsons sells cheap packets of cleaning bicarb and also borax (neither smell much if at all and they clean fairly well). They can be used on their own or mixed with lemon juice/ vinegar for extra cleaning power. The packets have information on how they should be used. Use lemon juice rather than vinegar if the vinegar smells too niffy or irritates. Bicarb is also supposed to be more eco friendly than most common cleaning products. You could also try soda crystals for some cleaning or something like an Ecover cleaning spray which may not have such a chemical niff.

I find that when you are shampooing your rug, or even your furniture, ammonia works the best. Especially if you have problems with animals doing their duties on your carpets.
What I do is I use like 1/4c of ammonia for a full tank of hot water in my shampooer;but I must admit that if you know for a fact that your carpet is filthy, use more ammonia.
Ammonia does give off a very strong scent at first and you may even want to have something over your nose, but the scent goes away within like 5-10 minutes and your rugs look great.
The other thing that works good on windows or glass is white vinegar, mix like 1/2 of vinegar and water.
But your best bet is to look online for free online home cleaning remedies and that is where you should get all sorts of ideas.

Well if your uneducated and an idiot in general you could mix Vinegar (an acid) with Baking soda (a base) they will react together (bubbles) and render each other useless. Not to mention Vinegar is a toxic acid and Baking soda is a mutagen (causes birth defects!). Or you could go with a normal product like 409 that has no adverse effects on humans, animals or the environment. I suggest you read up on this rather than asking wanna be greenies on Y/A who do what is popular rather than doing what is right for our familys and the planet!

Get a book called "Haley's Hints".
I saw him on TV a couple of times and used his homemade techniques - they all work!

He makes homemade cleaners and used products in unique ways to get a great, inexpensive result. he shows how to make simple, but effective household cleaners from non-chemical things.

IE - if you wipe shaving cream on a mirror and wipe off well, your mirror will not steam up (like in the bathroom) for a month!

I knock up some fresh "cream cleaner" for my wife every day. Not only does it makes the counter tops and taps sparkle, it's cleared up her skin on both sets of her cheeks!
