I am a licensed school teacher who is currently working as a state social worker and according to the law schools do not have any type of immunity; they are responsible for anyone who falls under the auspices of the school (which basically means they are directly responsible for any paid staff, contracted labor or volunteers--anyone they allow to perform a duty within their school district). As far as incidents regarding students and people who don't work for the school, school districts can still be held liable for incidents if the campus was not properly secured or if staff did not provide adequate supervision. Individual people and/or the enire school district can be sued in a lawsuit; that is one of the reasons teachers must carry their own insurance.

Actually, this is becoming a big issue in the district I work for. There are people who call themselves advocates, preying on less educated minorities, charging a fortune to represent these poor people against the district, and it is costing the district a pretty penny to defend against these people because there is no immunity, even for school districts. And I assume that the fees we pay to these district attorneys are causing taxes to go up, how else do we pay them?
