You should talk to your doctor about what he thinks is normal for your child. See if his height and weight are in proportion and if his body type seems to reflect mom and dad's shape.
To ME, yes, 30 pounds sounds HUGE for an 8 month old. My kids didn't break 20 lbs until sometime between 12-15 months.

My now four year old son weighed a whopping 11 & 1/2 pounds at birth and weighed over 30 pounds by his first birthday. Now, he only weighs 42 pounds. His doctor never said that there was a problem with his weight and told me that he would even out as he grew older. Just remember that your baby is going to be a lot more active in the coming months and I'm sure his weight will even out as my son's did.

My daughter is 16 pounds and 27 inches at 7 months. She is in the 60th percentile. It's hard to know if your baby is chubby or just tall. Ask your doctor.

Wow, Big baby, but its a bunch of rubbish calling a baby overweight. My babies were all fat and gorgeous. They are now healthy strong thick and muscular boys. Put baby on the floor a lot for him to exercise and roll around crawl around drool around, or whatever. Also, please try to stick to a healthy diet. If you are allready feeding him healthy stuff and he is just big, than just continue with what you are doing and promote lots of activities as he grows.

Here's a link...

select the one for your child's sex and age and you can chart it yourself to see where he /she is at.
My son is 16 months and 21 pounds----the bottom 5%. His height is average though. Hope this helps.
