A "Stallion" simply means the horse is a male - a non castrated one (i.e. NOT a gelding). Stallions are typically more high strung than geldings.
An "Arabian" is a specific breed. You can have an Arabian Stallion or a Quarter Horse Stallion or a Stallion.

Some people who don't know anything about horses think a stallion is a breed or type of animal. A stallion is a male horse that has not been castrated (neutered).
An Arabian is a breed of horse. Black is just a color. By the way, in Walter Farley's book "The Black Stallion," The Black was an Arabian stallion that was black in color.

The general term "stallion" refers to a male horse that is "in tact". A neutered male horse is a "gelding" and a female is a "mare". A stallion can be virtually any color and any breed. An Arabian is a specific breed of horse that originated from Saudi Arabia. Male Arabians in tact are stallions and they can be virtually any color including black. So it is possible to have a black Arabian stallion.

I guess it depends on what I was using the horse for. If it's just a pleasure horse that I don't plan on showing? A grade would be fine. But a horse I want to show and really go places with? No I wouldn't buy a grade horse. Bloodlines mean a little more than you think. It can tell a lot about a horse such as potential genetic issues. I want to know what I'm getting. Just because a horse is registered doesn't mean he's going to be a good show horse. Glitches in breeding happen all the time. And really great horses with good breeding get passed over just as much. I got my gelding from a home that had him as a pasture pet for the last 7 years. He has an amazing bloodline and is going to be a great show horse that I got for free. There are plenty of horses that have wonderful breeding with no respect.
