I might add that we don't have cable.

And, is it a myth or a reality that all TV does is try to sell the products that sponsor their shows?

My house has actually been without cable for about 1 1/2 years. We've talked about getting cable again but have decided to hold off for now. I think our qualtiy of life is BETTER without it. I don't really miss it anymore. I just get my news from the internet and radio.

Don't do it .... you can hold off .... I know you can!

I'd recommend the new show "30 Rock". It's very funny. Thursday nights on NBC.

It's about a show kind of like Saturday Night Live, but this is the backstage story of all the funny things that happen to the actors, writers, and producers while they're trying to get the show together.

Interestingly, there's ANOTHER show out this year (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) that's about exactly the same thing. This one is more of a drama while 30 Rock is a sitcom.

You should start with The Office and Heroes. I really enjoy those shoes. I would also recommend Scrubs, but it's probably too late to get involved, and I think they're on their way out.

Is it true that all tv does is sell products for its sponsers? Well, no. TV is a form of entertainment. That's it's main purpose. However, they make most of their money from sponsers, so of course, they want their sponsers to do well.

I highly reccommend Veronica Mars, Tuesdays on the CW. I love this show, hopefully you'll like it too.

As for shows exsisting just to sell products, it seems like companies are trying harder to push their products in the actual show through "product placement." The characters in the show will use specific items and make sure viewers all know what brand it is and how great it is. For example this season on Veronica Mars, Veronica is driving a Saturn SUV. And of course they try to reel you in with commercials too.

Good luck trying to understand what's going on if you start watching a tv series right in the middle of it. Watch something current and something real. Like sports or the news.
