Troy Smith is all around a better quarterback than Brady Quinn to me, and should be like that to everyone who watches college football because of the plain fact that he is better! Troy Smith is a heisman trophy winner, not because he's on Ohio State, not because he's black, but because he has better stats and has played better than anyone else in the NCAA. So I am confused as to why everyone thinks that Brady Quinn should be a 1st Round Draft Pick, and Troy Smith should be a late 1st Round Pick. Brady Quinn isn't a better passer, because he's 15th in the Nation for Passing Efficiency while Troy is 4th. Brady hasn't done more than he has, because he lost his puny bowl game while Troy is taking his team to the National Championship. So why the hell is Brady getting more cred from EVERYBODY than Troy Smith, when Troy is obviously way better than him?

They are both overrated.

I think that as of right now, the main reason why scouts are high on Brady Quinn and not so much on Troy Smith is their measurables. Brady Quinn has better mechanics, he's taller and has a stronger arm. Troy Smith is a better scrambler and is the prototypical "winner".

Scouts like to believe that they are smarter than everyone else, and the popular belief amongst them is that Brady Quinn will flourish within the NFL game in time because he has been immersed in an pro-style offense. There is some credence to this. Matt Leinart made some strides this year after being in Pete Carroll's pro-style offense at USC. However there's the other side of the coin; Vince Young played in a shotgun-spread offense at Texas, yet he has enjoyed early success in the NFL as well. However Vince Young is 6'5'', 235 with a very strong arm...not the strongest but more than adequate. Troy Smith has neither the pro-style offense pedigree of Brady Quinn, nor the measureables of Vince Young, yet he has come up big in big games.

I happen to think that Brady Quinn will only succeed in the NFL if he goes to a team that will surround him with good talent. He's not a Peyton Manning that can make everyone around him better. I see Troy Smith being a backup for his first few years in the league ala Seneca Wallace of the Seahawks. Smith will come into his own probably in his 4th or 5th year and eventually will have his shot at being a starter in the league.

People like the "make up" of Brady Quinn. The guy's like 6'-4", 230. People compare him, his size, arm strength, and ability to run to the likes of Troy Aikman.

Brady has what most scouts look for. Just because he played for an over-rated, but not that good Notre Dame team doesn't mean that he's not going to be a good NFL QB.

Plus, if you're a Smith fan...wouldn't you rather see Quinn rotting away in Oakland as the #1 pick and Smith playing in Miami or Minnesota?

I completely agree with you and I ask the same question to people all the time. Most people answer by saying that Troy Smith is too small and Brady Quinn has the build of an NFL quarterback. I say bullshit! Brady Quinn got whooped in his bowl game and I hope the Raiders pick him so they can suck ever more. I obviously do not like Quinn and it is simply because I do not agree with ANY of the hype built around him.

JARED ZABRANSKY IS THE BEST QB IN THE DRAFT! haha. kidding on that one.

Well what would be fun for Oakland to do...pass on Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell...take Calvin Johnson LSU and Steve Smith USC and Troy Smith in the 3rd round. Sure Smith isn't a top QB on the boards, but you don't win the Heisman because you have no talent, although they aren't all success stories. Whatever...The best fit for them would likely be JaMarcus Russell immediately because their offensive line is not very good and Russell is a decent mobile QB over Quinn...but Smith...I don't know, it seems odd how a player can fall that far because of height and losing to Florida after doing so well and previously being projected so high...Whatever Russell right now

The hype on Quinn is all due to the fact that his coach Charlie Weiss coached the PATS Offense with Tom Brady and the ND offense is a pro type offense. After seeing him perform against a quicker secondary and line (LSU's) which is what he will face in the pros, as everyone is a step up from the college game (like going from HS to college level) his stock may drop, but the Weiss/Brady connection is hyped so much that his stock prob won;t fall too far. If the guy from LSU comes out and can get a little weight off and become a little more mobile he is the best I have seen from an arm strength, quick release and pure passer point of view. His passing is totally effortless, but at 6'6 and what 250-260 it should be.

I think it's because Quinn is more the prototype NFL QB. He's tall, strong arm, decent mobility, and sees the field well. Troy's the question mark. He's more in the mold of a Mcnabb or Culpepper. He's a smart player and sees the field well but not the typical NFL QB. I really don't think it's a race issue. Vince Young went early and guys like Vick, McNair, and McNabb have been played well and helped to put an end to that...

Because Brady Quinn is the better QB...with less of a team around him, he has done far more than Troy Smith...Quinn is also bigger than Troy Smith, and has a stronger arm...which better suits the NFL...

...This is why the NFL is singing..."When Quinn the QB gets here, everybody's gonna want a dose...Come on without...Come on within...You've not seen nothing like the mighty Quinn..."...

Heh, heh...

I think its the Charlie Weiss connection and the fact that he is coming from ND the most overrated college team ever. You could point to the black/white issue but I think every black qb knows he is going against a stacked deck anyway. But if you look at alot of college teams today there are more black qb leading the way. Troy Smith will just have to prove himself again and I think he is ready for that.

The only difference between Quinn and Smith is that Quinn has more weapons than Smith.

If you have seen many ND and OSU games, you will notice that Smith is mostly shortgun QB. While Quinn makes all sort of plays which make him look more seasoned and professional QB.

I dont know if I would pick Quinn or Smith as I think Smith is going to prove himself as V.Young (titans) did...while Quinn will be as Matt (cardinals). I think this is a fair comperison.

Well,,,, we will see this next year...
