Every person responds differently to both the shot and the pill.

Fundamentally, the shot is less expensive per month (about $30, although you have to pay it all at once - $90+ - when you get the injection), whereas the pills run about $50+ per month if you pay out-of-pocket.
The good news is that you can get low or no-cost BC from your local family planning clinic. Make an appointment and discuss all of your options.

both of them works the same, however, if you are on the pill you have to take it every singe day at the same time. On the other hand, if you have the shot, you do not have to worry on taking the pill everyday, all you have to do is have the shot every month. The shot will cost about $40. If you go online, they will tell you the price. The pills cost about 20 to 50 a month depending on what brand you want to use. You will gain weight if you are on both method.

I would totally NOT recomend the shot! I gained 35 pounds in one month! Suffered from paranoia, sweat excessively, had a weird body odor, lost my sex drive, and did not have my period for 6 months after stopping it. I only took 2 doses (1 shot every 3 months). All my symptoms went away within 9 months of taking the last shot. (3 months worth of the med and 6 months more).

I would recommend the pill. If you have insurance, there is a good chance that it is covered and you will only have to pay the co-pay.

I think the pill is much better. I have had friends who took the shot & they traded up for the pill. Every woman is different, so the pills affect everyone different.
I took the pill for 6yrs & they helped me so much with my pms, but I never gained weight because of them. I paid about $30 a month.

Depoprovera is a second tier birth control method reserved for those who can't take OCP's. Long term use of the pill seems to be very safe, but depo causes weight gain almost universally and causes osteoporosis later in life. Also mood swings are quite common and if this is the case your stuck for three months. I almost never encourage 'the shot.'
