I own a transmission shop, and have worked on transmissions for years. You never stated if you had a straight drive or an automatic transmission. I guess we are assuming its an automatic. Loud whining is not good. This is usually a sign of the pump not getting enough fluid for some reason. Did the filter maybe fall off, and is laying down in the pan? Is the transmission low on fluid? Does it do it all the time, or just when you drive the vehicle? Take it back to the place you had it done, and have them take a look at it. It shouldn't be doing that no matter when its taking place. You may have damaged the transmission already by not taking it back when it first started doing it. Just because it still goes alright, doesn't mean its not damaged. A lot of the time it won't hurt it, but define loud whining? Does it progressively get louder over a period of time? 9 out of 10 times it is the filter stopped up, and/or low on fluid. The pump in it can get very loud if its not getting enough fluid to keep it working smoothly.
Glad I could help, Good Luck!!!

Take the car back to the transmission shop. The work should be guaranteed.

Its probably a brg on the chain sprocket support that`s making the whinning noise.simple test if it quits when you put it in drive and car not moving ,this brg is the problem.if it does not, then it may be pump cavitation noise caused by air being drawn in with fluid.

check the transmission fluid and filter. if these are good, have the car looked at.
