If you're looking at the BEST sat Nav, I would choose Garmin over Tom Tom every time. Tom Tom are relatively new to the sat nav world and so their technology used isn't the most up to date. The way their navigaion works uses an older type of antenna technology and takes longer to acquire a position. However Garmin have been doing GPS and navigation equipement for years and years. Garmin don't just made things for the automotive sector, they make stuff for the Marine sector too. They use the latest antenna equipment which means they acquire a lock faster and more accurately. Garmin tend to be more reliable too and they have new security codes so if someone breaks in and steals the unit, they need to enter a code to make it work. If the code isn't entered correctly it will not work. And so is useless to the theif.

If I was you, I'd go with Garmin.
People are choosing TomTom because of the advertising TomTom has put in, but surely if you're the best, you don't need to advertise because people will already know you are the best. Think Why Ford cars advertises a lot, yet Mercedes don't. etc.

they are both easy to operate and both have most of the same functions in the way of navigating, if you want MP3 players and things like that, well you know which one to go with

Have Fun Choosing

nuvi 660 is a larger screen version of the 360... it doens't show more its just a bigger screen

As far as Im aware the mapping data is the same between the Garmin & Tom Tom.. so theres no difference there

if you want to abroad then the European mapping may be a bonus, otherwise probably not worth it. I think one of the Tom Tom products has US, Canadian & Mexican mapping aswell.. again not sure how much use that is going to be.

Id check to see if the maps can be updated (not all can) if not then you have bought the electronic equivalent of a road atals for around 30 time the price.

best depends on what you are looking to get out of it.

some might argue get a cheap one around £150 will do the same job as an expensivve one.. buit means you have £150..250 to put to a new one when it gets nicked, dropped or outdated. Most GPS systems seem to have around 5..10 years life before the satelltie constellation data seems to get out of sync.

the best might be a fitted one in your car radio.. I saw a real neat looking one in a SEAT recently, also seen one that has a 7" screen that fits inside a stbndard DIN radio slot.

Personally Ive always rated Gamrin products... but then Ive always used Garmin marine GPS's so I find them easy to use.

I got a garmin nuvi 360t from Santa so far no problems
tested it on a round trip to Scotland,1108 miles did not lose satellites once
if you have a compatible mobile phone you can use the sat screen to access all the phones modes (caller display voice calling etc) and(it wont tell you this in the manual)as a text message is delivered because the nuvi has text to speech it reads it out for you, brill

ive got a tomtom one.
it does the job just fine.

i think the extra features of the more expensive models arent worth the price.

why would i want to play mp3 on my sat nav when my car stereo can play mp3 just fine?

The extortionate quantity that the I.T. organizations fee..why not purchase a map, for some quid ? Plus..you've a tongue on your head..ask someone, like a postman or policeman once you get close for your vacation spot !!!
