my 5month old son has a small rash about a size of a nickel on the side of his face by his ear. I'm not sure what it is, and his next appointment to see his doctor is in about a week. Could it be ring worm? It doesn't really seem to bother him, its read and circular and has small dots. Any ideas?

it may be eczema which is skin condition: an inflammation of the skin characterized by reddening and itching and the formation of scaly or crusty patches. or it may be perfume someone is wearing.

Sounds like ring worm to me. Its not an actual parasite but a fungus.
Kids are most prone to it, if he's been in contact with other small children, or if you live on a farm, its quite common. Not a threat, it just needs treatment it should hold just fine until his appointment. I'd call and let them know now though. Its treated with an anti-fungal prescription ointment.

try some hydrocortisone on it. It will help whether it is a ring worm or eczema. Search for a photo of a ring worm on yahoo and if it matches, dip a cotton swab in a little bleach and swab the area in question, my mom did this for us and it dries it up pretty quickly. You don't want it to spread to his hairline area.

Sounds like heat rash. Did it appear after he was sleeping? You should be okay until doc appointment. If it seems dry, put some lotion on it. (mom of 5)

duno sorry but my brother had one on his chest, a little like circle like a track it turned out to be some kind of baby lice thing he wasent bothered and it went away with cream from the doctor
gd idea going to the doctor hope alls well with him an im sure its nothing xxx
