I was conflicted about this..

What if the parents can not care for her as she gets older, heavier and they get older.. She goes into a group home. Sometimes in group homes people like that are raped. What would it do for her to get pregnant. So I can semi understand why the need to stop reproduction.

Stunting her growth. Once again conflicted. The child has the mind of an baby. A baby needs held cuddled and if its smaller a lot easier to do those things. Because of the child's mental nature it may be better for her to be child like.

All I really can say positively is that I am glad I didn't have to make those choices because I really do not know if I could. In one breath they are protecting the child trying to do what they feel will be in the best emotional needs of the child but in the same breath its horrifying that they can just stop her from growing.

I do suggest before people base their reactions on the story the poster put they also read the journal of the parents

At first, I thought so

But then I read about what these parents have to do to care for their child.

Then, I thought, if I was a vegetable, and was never going to recover, and was a huge burden on my parents, I would want them to take whatever steps tey could to lessen that burden - even if it meant making it so that I couldn't grow

Gotta admit that is quite a knee jerk....BUT... How many in this column have a child like that? Walk a mile in their shoes maybe? You people are reacting like there are Stunt Clinics springing up all over....

That is horrible. Yes it has to be difficult to care for a child with a handicap, but as with any child you are supposed to let them live their lives and love them no matter what. Just because she has a handicap does not mean she will not be aware of any of this when she gets older. How sad, I hope they realize what they have done.

there are small people everywhere and until you can walk a day in her parents shoes, i wouldn't judge. they seem to be loving parents, read the article. they still are keeping her home and not at an institution. god bless them.

TO EACH HIS OWN. NO ONE BUT THE PARENTS OF THE LITTLE GIRL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE BURDEN OF RAISING A HANDICAPPED CHILD. IT IS NOT EASY.
I AM CURRENTLY INVOLVED WITH A WOMEN THAT HAS AN ADULT MALE HANDICAP SON, AND IT IS NOT EASY ON HER. YOU SHOULD RESERVE JUDGMENT UNTIL YOU ARE IN THAT SITUATION.

whooo, boy...

in my opinion, she should have been taken out of her misery. functioning alone does not a happy person make. come on, she will never ever lead a LIFE. she is condemned to a world of darkness forever. in situations like this, we should take a hint from mother nature and handle it like the animals would.
