is she mentally disabled?? if so you can request a special education evaluation. if she is disabled, you can request an IEP which is a tool used to address her educational needs. in your IEP, you can request the school provide her with tutoring or pay for tutoring. Anything in your IEP, the school has to follow if its written in there- if they don't follow an IEP, you can sue your school district due to the fact that they aren't following the law.

If she didn't qualify for extra help, then how did the school let you down? And just what has been your and your husband's role in helping her? You've waited till 7th grade to get her tutoring? How many hours do you spend at night helping her with her school work? You are supposed to work with the school and the teachers to help your daughter, not just leave it up to the school!!! NO they shouldn't pay for her extra help!!

Parents are the best tutors. Parents do not charge their own children, so the school need not pay for private tutoring.

No is the answer. As parents, we should also check the learning process of our child. Maybe she really needs a personal tutor to closely monitor her progress and you should give any assistance she needs from you especially your patience.

It sounds like she doesn't have an IEP. You can ask for her to be re-tested, and also cite her grades. Have you been to schwablearning.com? Below is a link to their message boards where a lot of parents and educators can help you navigate the system. Your daughter is fortunate to have a caring parent.

Then it is your responsibility as her parent to make sure she gets the help she needs. Your school district is not responsible for individual tutoring expenses. Move to a better school district.

depends how much special need she needs, maybe you should get her to take an official IQ test, and then show the results to the principal and get a waiver for a free private tutor
