I've had this cold with a really bad cough for a week now. I was coughing so much my abs became sore, which I've had happen before. But now it actually feels like I pulled something. It's very painful when I cough now. It's the area right below where my sternum ends.

yes, you can, ask sammy sosa, the baseball player, he pulled a muscle by either sneezing or coughing. id see a doctor, but they really can't do anything for a pulled muscle or broken rib, if it's that.

I just got over a really bad cough/cold that caused the same type of pain ... left side - under my breast and very sensitive to touch or movement ... I couldn't breath right, cough right, have sex, sleep on my back ... nothing ... I went to 3 different doctors .. one said pulled ligament, another said pulled rib muscle and the last one took x-rays to see if I had any stress fractures ... none of them could fix it ... and none of them knew exactly what it was ... it took about 6 weeks for it to go away ... it's not completely gone and I can still feel it when I cough really deep ... guess we weren't the only ones with it ... hope you feel better soon ... !

~Sounds exactly like a pulled muscle. I hope you're taking cough medicine? Maybe you need to see a doctor if you've been sick this long, for an antibiotic?
This happened to my daughter.
Good luck.~
