I like the game it is alright but people, NO KIDDING are buying characters for money and i mean REAL money i saw a bid for 1,000 dollars on ebay that is b.s, and people also use there real money on gold, 50 dollars for 300 gold one guy bought 5,000 gold for 700 f-ing dollars. What do yall think about this situation? Now if you like dungeons and dragons and that sourt of thing the is definetly the game to go pick up. The fun factor of this game i would proubly give a perfect 10. You can chat online with other nerds! 50 bucks for the game and 15 dollars each month!? Get at me and tell me what you think about the game or question.

People are just impatient and lazy.

Combine that with the fact that you are probably looking at geeks with no women (which means, a lot of disposable income).

You look at a level 60 character, it probably took someone a few months of steady effort to get them there, not to mention the high-end gear and weapons probably took a few more months to accumulate.

I can see someone spending a few hundred to bypass all of that (not a $1000, but a $100-$200 maybe)

To quote Chris Rock "I'm not saying that he is right, but I UNDERSTAND"

As for myself, I love the game. It is a geek's paradise. It is involving, escapist fun and if you group with teh right people, you can act a complete and utter fool.

There was an incident a while back where a bunch of high-level players stripped all of their characters naked except for their guild tabard (like a shirt, with their guild insignia which was a pink bunny) and attacked the zones set aside for the beginner characters.

A lot of folks do take the game TOO seriously, but there are some folks who know to let their hair down and have fun

well...first off, the selling characters or items over internet is against the WoW policy and the account who sells or buys those will be banned as far as i know...and like you said the game is "alright" and i was one of those people who basically thought like you, as in "why pay monthly fee for a computer game?" but i started playing it anyway...heh
the game is ruined by those people who take it very seriously...i was having fun for awhile, had bunch of level 60's and when it came down to doing 40 people instances...i understand that people should not act like a 10 year olds for the sake of other players but still...between all the crap that people type and "dragon point system(?)" for guilds...it takes the "fun" out of everything.
i stopped playing months ago because of that reason and i don't know about you but as far as i know...not everyone who plays are "nerds," i knew some people who got into it to see what the hype was all about and some liked it and some didn't. i still don't know why there is monthly fee for it...i guess it's for the "service" (?) to prevent hacking and cheating etc...
spending real mony for computer images?...well...what can anyone say?...it's their money...their choice to stay in their parent's house even though they are over 30 years old...
to be really honest, this game is waste of time and money... it's fun to play it as a "hobby" but people make it more of a job than anything...
