Hello,
(ANS) The real nack in life, in my opinion is recognising "when" something is cheap, meaning cheap quality, or cheap and nasty, or cheap because its made from poor quality materials.
**Moral of the story is, CHEAP IS EXPENSIVE in the long run!!
**If a shop or supermarket is selling something two for the price of one there's usually a good reason for that, often its false economy or the product is aweful quality, or past its sell by date.
**Pay a little more and you tend to get a better product, better customer service or technical support. Products last longer meaning we dont end up throwing them away after only 6mnths.
**Cheap is especially true when it comes to broadband internet services, yes! you might get a service but what about technical support when you need it? Its all very well having free braodband but dont expect the support to be any good, well it is free after all so what do you expect??!!! (see what I mean, its an attitude of mind).
**We now live in a society or economy where everyone desires consumer products & services cheaper than ever before, but we all pay a price for that (it doesnt come free in reality). Somewhere along the line somebody pays the price, & that person might be in another country, in a factory, swetshop or call centre. This is why so many jobs & services have gone from the UK because someone else can do the work cheaper?? so we here in the UK loose out. Its called Globalisation but nobody here in the UK wants to talk about the price we all pay for this. We have collectively buried our heads in the sand and ALL chosen to look the other way while work, workers & jobs go else where in the world. So much for Britain once being the workshop of the world thats a bit of a sick joke now, now that we have hardly any manufactering industries left.

1) I have a very bad sleep and a very sensitive back, so it basically qualifies me for the category of person that splurges on bedding. Yet I sleep everynight on a 20 $-air mattress and I have to say that it's probably one of the most comfortable mattresses I ever had.
2) I don't own a car, but for this point I really agree with you. Because, with a cheap engine oil you can drive less, your engine suffers more and, in the end, you'll have to pay more to repair the damages caused by the increase of pollution.
3) I bought a lot of cheap shoes in my life and I reached the conclusion that if you take the habit to change the sole of the shoes within a week after you bought them, then they can last for years. Cheap shoes on their own don't last long, but cheap shoes with new soles go a looong way.
4) Basically I never buy cheap coffee because it's so disgusting that I barely can drink it and end up throwing it away. But lately, I discovered an italian coffee (it's not gorgeous but it's far from being bad) that's 4 $ a pound! A great deal.
A false good idea for me is to go for a cheap hair cut. My hair is a bit difficult to cut and only a very good hair stylist can do. But a year ago I started going to a high-class salon for free : experienced professionals get extra training cutting my hair and they give me the best cuts I've ever had.
Another false economy is to buy cheap skin care products. They're usually ladden with chemicals which only ended up making my skin more sensitive and more difficult to manage. But I avoided splurging on luxury skin care by making my own with a few good (but still cheap) raw materials like oils, hydrosols, wax, clay and so on. Now I provide my friend with next to nothing skin care products and they swear they're the best they tried.
The only REAL false economy I can think of is cheap food (I'm not talking about fair prices but about hard discount). The taste and the nutritional content are poor. In this case, I'd rather cut down on expensive products (like meat, fish and processed meals) to afford the food sold in health food stores.

There are such things as bargains. My mum just bought a 2.6 GHz laptop with 512 meg of ram and a 60 Gb hard drive for £150

1. Cheap jeans. They rip easily.
2. Cheap hats. They don't last long enough to justify their low price.
3. Cheap tires. They get deformed or blow up.
4. Any kind of cheap auto part. Or not original ones.
i really don't care about cheap coffee since i like my cowboy coffee (half sugar, half weaked-down coffee lol).

I don't think so, even the amount of energy required to cook cheaper cuts of meat won't make it more expensive than buying more expensive cuts

Well I don't know about you but sleep is pretty important to me so I'd have to say bed matresses. I mean, who cares about the rest if you're knackered every day!

furniture - - - If you buy better to begin with - it lasts forever. Also, vaccuum. I have bought so many cheaper vaccuums and end up having to replace them.
