My daughter has pretty much always sucked on her fingers and now favors her thumb. I don't mind that she sucks her thumb, what worries me is now that she has teeth she is chewing her thumb and biting through the skin. She has never really taken a binky and I tried putting a band-aid on her thumb, but she pulled it off and went right back to sucking. I don't want her to stop sucking her thumb, because it helps her get to sleep and she's slept all night since she was about a month and a half, but I don't know what to do to get her to stop chewing into the skin and possibly getting an infection.

Get her a teething ring, but put it in the fridge so that it is cold when you give it to her. Hope that helps.

My son starting having the same problem. They are in the teething stages. It feels good to them to bite on things. Try introducing her to more teethers. It takes time to get infants to want them. Sit with her as much as possible and try giving her teethers. It worked for my son. He chews on those instead now.

you shouldn't let her suck her thumb at all. It will affect her teeth and make them crooked. I would try mittens for sleeping. Definitely no binky because that is a new habit that would need to be broken.

She might find it soothing. My ten month old is doing the same thing with her thumb. It's a phase that will pass with time. Call her pediatrician if you have further concerns
