I don't know why. I have the same problem w/ bananas unless my stomach is absolutely empty - normally 4 hours after a meal. Don't have this problem w/ other acid foods. This is a fairly new development for me, as I used to put bananas in my cereal all the time. I'm speculating that it might be because they pick them so green that they can't ripen properly.

Bananas have enough acid in them to cause heartburn, chances are you are sensitive to the acid. Try eating a peice of bread before the banana to absorb the acid.

I used to have the same problem before I got my gall bladder taken out. Whenever I ate apples, bananas or oranges, I had terrible heartburn.
