Hi,
I am a Past Master of a Masonic Lodge, and we put millions into charitable funds, have a good meal together, take our wives or freinds to a festival, and generally do good for the community.
Why do some folks have the notion that it it is all a bit strange & daft. I chair a meeting tonight with a bunch of mates. It is just a club. No problem.
Sure, we help each other in time of need, but would you not do the same for a freind or neighbour?
Non-Masonic folks - please stop criticising, and learn more about it all. We wish you all a pleasant New Year.
Your thoughts ?
Regards,
Bob.

Happy New Year to you too.
I have no fear of the Masons or what they do. But I do worry that becoming a member - in certain circumstances - can give someone an unfair advantage in life.
I know of people who have been passed over for promotions for which they were more than qualified because another candidate (with lesser qualifications)has been a member of a lodge.
Now it is THAT kind of situation that makes people suspicious of the Masonic Order.

I understand Dan Brown's next book will be on the Masons.
If you think the Masons are misunderstood now, wait until Dan Brown gets his hands on the topic. Just look at what he did to art, religion, and history in the Da Vinci Code! His research (or lack thereof) was horrifying.

Not sure what is controversal about your question/statement.
I think of those gatherings, the same as old ladies gathering to have hot tea at noon, or a lot of other groups. It's more about getting together and not being alone rather than what exactly you do or don't do.
Cause when you think about it, we can be charitable or drink tea, or read a book anytime alone, so the reason that there are groups is more for the comradery.

Hi,
I have a few questions for you. Why do you have the eye in the Egyptian pyramid as your logo. That may be one reason Christians are leary of your lodge. It is a satanic symbol. And why, if you're a good and charitable organization do you meet in secret and your membership is secret and you have a secret handshake between yourselve to show you who is a member that you may not be aware of? Good organizations don't do these things. I'm not condemning you, I'm just asking.

The Masons have done a lot of good in the world, not only just for other Masons. My grandfather, a Mason, said if you lived the principles you led a good life. And he did.

Any secret society is going to be regarded with a certain degree of suspicion, simply because it's not public. When people don't know what's really going on, they can make up all kinds of wild things.
There's also some specific propaganda, notably by that psycho Jack Chick (www.chick.com), that tells people that Masonry is devil worship, and gives all kinds of "proof".

Ok you do charity work so how many of your members are from the lower social scale IE in poorly paid jobs or not in employment at all for no fault of their own. Your organisation is seen as a snobbery club if your not middle class or above your not welcome this is just my opinion on what i have seen and yes I know people who are Masons

My dad was a mason, I found some of his bible type books, they were crazy, the masons seemed to be almost mafia like.
Yet like you are doing they allways try and defend themselves by saying they are normal. I have been told first hand about some of your rituals, if what I have heard is correct, they are not of the norm, they are freaky and quite scary!
