Lake monsters, not so likely, but sea serpents are definitely a possibility seeing as we know very little of the ocean depths.

Nessie isn't real. I read about it today in a National Enquirer magazine while sitting in the ENT office. The picture of Nessie was taken back in 1934. Sixty some odd years later, an old man confessed to strapping the neck and head to a toy submarine.
I don't believe in any other sea "monsters". Such things as sharks and alligators have been alive since the dinosaurs era and everyone knows what they are and have seen them quite frequently whether it be on tv or in person. If sea monsters did exist, they would have been found out long before now.

Well, yes and no. "Nessie" is the name of a specific local monster that inhabits Loch Ness. And while many have claimed to see her, there is no conclusive proof using current technology, like sonar.
But yes, there are definitely things that would qualify as sea serpents. And since every lake, stream and river eventually leads to an ocean, there is always the chance that anything that lives in a an ocean can eventually find it's way into a smaller, inland body of water. There are instances of great white sharks showing up in tiny swimming holes in the North east. Eventually, they were poisoned by the fresh water, but that didn't stop them from getting there in the first place, right?
Things like giant squids were once considered sea monsters. There is a creature called a coelacanth (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=coelacanth&spell=1) that was thought to be extinct and isn't, and it looks very much like what Nessie is said to look like. The truth is that the oceans are the last great undiscovered part of our world. And no one can say for certain what’s there, because no one has ever seen it all. The things that cause extinction on land don't necessarily affect the sea, so creatures that may have been thought to have died out, could be very much alive and well, in the farther reaches of the deep blue. The fact that we may not have seen it doesn't mean it's not there. I for one, grew up in NYC and never once saw a baby pigeon. But I don't doubt they exist. :p
This is something that we may never have the answer to, until the creatures themselves wish to be seen. But... considering what we tend to do to unusual looking creatures, I hope they continue to hide. Until then, it's up to you what you want to believe. I’ve found though, that limiting the scope of nature is never very realistic. Like the man in the movie said, “Nature always finds a way… “ :)

Here's my opinion: I think there have been too many sightings of both Nessie and other lake monsters to say it was "mass hallucination" or a messed-up perception every time.
I think there are undiscovered species out there. Think of the giant squid. It was thought to be a myth until a dead one was hauled to the surface of the ocean. We humans must be arrogant indeed if we think we know all the mysteries of the Earth. So I'd say it is possible that "lake monsters" exist, though probably not in the form we expect, and I don't think there are any real photos out there; only ones faked by people trying to get attention.

While I have no claims on the truth. There is some evidence that there is something there but nothing conclusive.
As for other lake "monsters"... many other large lakes have similar stories about them.
Lake Okanagon - Ogopogo
Lake Kos Kol, Kazakhtan
Even the US Great Lakes there are rumors of a breeding population. I have even heard outlandish claims that the lake are connected for breed purposes. I don't put too much stock in this stuff honestly. But it would be kinda neat if there was something there.

Yes. They are real. BUT...
They only exist in the "in-between" world. The only evidence of such world is the fuzziness which seems to be the only way matter can exist. Proof of this is ALL the photos ever taken of such creatures are fuzzy and mostly unrecognizable. ;)
