I'll give you a quick run-down of what I think of when I think of Russia:
1. Corrupt government. Huge Mafia influence.
2. Economy oil driven.
3. 40% of Russian men die drunk.
4. double-digit inflation...today.
5. Huge per-capita abortion rate.
6. Huge adoption market for US.
Pretty sad, I guess.

I think it's a country with incredible potential, once it works out how it wants to live (being governed i mean). Of course, my sister in law, Tatyana, is ethnic Russian from Kiev so I may be biased. It has a lot of problems right now, legacies from the Soviet Regime to overcome...old prejudices from excesses and some pollution. But if the Russians ever really start pulling together, they would become the worlds greatest country. They have so much, but have been hampered by corruption and greed and fear and a long history of other people invading them that it will take time to sort all out in their national mind.

I think Russia's an old country whose people have historically had plenty of time in the harsh winters to think of ways to use potatoes that may go bad- VODKA!!
