Hindu squats/Furey squats are great...some might say even better than running or cycling, certainly at least a great addition. I will give you a link below to an example.

Surprisingly, they heal knee problems too. Old school wisdom was that this was a hyper extension of the knee, and would damage it. In fact, the proponents argue, just the opposite occurs. My wife and I both experienced improvements in knee condition using this exercise. There are numerous similar reports on the forum at the site I've posted with the example.

For the calves specifically, you can simply raise up and down on the toe. It is hard to beat biking for calves. But the important thing to remember is that you can develop muscles through isolating exercises by focusing you mind into the muscle during exercise. This develops the mind as well as the body.

The previous answer's suggestions are also good. I would add anything involving stairs -- whether a stairmaster machine at the gym or simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator whenever possible. For good all-around development, try taking the stairs backward! It works the muscles differently and keeps them limber, and helps avoid shin splints.

Try ice skating/speed skating you can get good leg workout from this
sport, not to mention have fun.

Squats and leg presses. It will also work out your glutes.
