...and I mean the response that the president would give me...I am aware that we all have various reasons about why we are at war.

It's not the weapons of mass destruction thing anymore right? What was the reasoning after that?

Back in 2002 Bush said that Sadam tried to kill his daddy. That's one reason. The other is oil. Money from oil.

Back in 2003 there were many experts who said that Iraq didn't have WMD and had no ties to al-Qaida. Bush manipulated intelligence reports and lied to the U.S. people to get the illegal war "approved" by a weak congress. It was an ill-conceived war with no strategy for the interim, and no exit strategy. That's why we're in the mess we're in. Also, the Bush administration had very little knkowledge about the reality of the Iraqi people: 3 major ethnic/religious groups held together only by the iron fist of a vile dictator. Bush and his advisors are/were stupid and weak-willed. They don't have the stmach for what it really takes to get out of the mess in Iraq.

The answer the Presbo would give? Well, he gave removing Saddam as the reason post 'what WMD?'. Now it seems to be along the lines of fighting terrorism, securing energy stability for the US, removing a tyrant from power and 'winning what we have started'. It's an awful way to go about it as most people would agree and unbalanced since there is a conspicuous lack of hearts & minds effort. I guess at its most simple, there is an ideological war going on, Presbo admits that - with fundamentalists on both sides (he doesn't admit that) and a sea of grey in between (that's us, or at least, me)

In any case, find me a significant conflict that didn't breed more conflict. Within recent history, World War I led directly to World War II, that led directly to the creation of Israel which has directly/indirectly led to decades of conflict in the middle east which in turn has bred/fueled conflict everywhere.

So why is the US (+ allies?) at war with Iraq? Because it's what people with power do. They quarrel, fight, jockey for position, lobby, influence and control. In this case, there is even a reason to avoid irrational or reasonable self-interest (as was the case with WWI & WWII) by doing it all in the name of one of the three main gods.

People will one day look back and wonder what was going through our heads. I for one am thinking that already.

The reason "de jour" is to rid the country of a terrible dictator and bring the Iraqi people democracy. I was watching the news the other day and I don't really think they're enjoying the democracy a whole lot.

The other day, the American president met with a group he calls the coalition of the willing. Or, as the rest of the world calls them, Britain and Australia.
They have it. The smoking gun. The evidence. The potential weapon of mass destruction they have been looking for as their pretext of invading Iraq. There's just one problem - it's in North Korea.

Wouldn't a better question be, "Why do American citizens think they are fit to decide what kind of government Iraq has, when they can't even run a proper government themselves?"

Real reasons have nothing to do with the rationales. I think he wants to foment civil war so he can steal the oil. It is an old alcoholic game called, "Let's you and him fight." (Iraq produces 2,000,000 barrels a day and the citizens are standing in line for gas. Where does the money go?) "Follow the Money." Where did I hear that?

Remember the lessons of Impeachment, it's good for the country because the government is too busy screwing itself up to bother us.

Believe me... 99 % of all the people don't know anything about a proper reason. See it like that: its all about power, all about petrol, Mr. Bush wants to have the biggest piece of the cake... ! Innocent people are dying for nothing! He is just sitting and watching. There were no mass destruction weapons, and if there were, they were produced and imorted to Irak by America...

If you think America is "at war with Iraq", I can only tell you that you might want to keep up on current events a little better in the future. Iraq is now an American ally :D

No idea whatsoever. I didn't understand it when he had the weapons excuse - there was no evidence of the existence of these weapons.

George has made statements regarding terrorist acts; but they are completely unrelated to this country and certainly unrelated to September 11th.

The propaganda machine needs a reboot...

the president would say to free iraq of a dictator and mass killer of his people, to give them democracy , the right for iraq to choose their own future. and don't gave terrorist's a home to survive in.
