As the Y&A poster boy for Dyson, I think it's quite obvious where my loyalties lie. And I can further state that Dyson's suck...and they suck well, pardon the oxymoron. And once you've felt the suction power of Dyson...you'll never go back to normal sucking ever again.

He He He.... you said Suck.
Well, I bought a used Tri Star on Ebay 3 years ago and this thing totally got any and all dirt, dust, etc... But it was too much of a hassle with it having the canister, hose and power head. Three pieces to my wife was too much of a hassle. So, she went out and got a 200$ Hoover, hey it cleans good enough for her. However, I've been hearing more and more from friends or family about how much they love their Dyson. So, going by that, I'd say get a Dyson if you want the ease of operation of a single unit, if you really want to get the job done at an industrial level, I'd say go on Ebay and look for either a TriStar or a newer Electrolux canister type.

Dyson sucks the best. If you have $$ to spend on a vacuum that never loses suction, you will be amazed. Buy online & you won't have to pay taxes. This vacuum will last you forever and you won't be disappointed! (go for the "ball" -- it's more fun, and if you have pet hair, buy the "animal)

Kirby! When they demonstrate the Kirby in your home, they have you repeatedly vacuum over the same area of your carpet 30-40 times. Then they place a small filter in the Kirby and vacuum over the same area twice. It is absolutely amazing how much dirt it removes after you have swept with your old vac.

I've tried Eureka, Oreck and Hoover. The most suction was the Hoover, enough that it sucks up it's own cord if I run over it. It has been working that well for over 10 years. I've had Kirby demonstarted in home before also. It seems like a great product but too pricey.

Ok, i know how expensive these are...we're still paying on it, but honestly i LOVE our kirby. We got ours off ebay so it didnt cost AS much. They are pricey but they last soo long, and such a good warrenty that you send them a broken part and they will send a replacement right back. Our whole house looks smells and feels so much better with this vacume compared to the hoover we had. The hoover was only a few months old, maybe 5, and we had a horrible time it wuldnt pick up anything.
Definitily Kirby but try to find one on Ebay or somewhere besides door to door salespeople

Hi Sauron,
Ooh! Creepy ID!
I've had an Electrolux, an Oreck, and a Rainbow.
For the price and convenience, the Oreck wins hands down. For actual suck-power, I think the Electrolux was strongest, but that's just a guess. All three had great suction.
Best wishes,
searcher

Look at the CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating of each. We use a Powr-flite ironside, it has 145 CFM and only costs about $250-300. Kirby's have 115 CFM and cost about $1700.

I have a black lab that sheds horribly and a kirby vacuum actually has helped.
