Google checkout will give paypal a run for it's money. Google has offered huge cuts in processing fees to anyone advertising with Google.

But.. Ebay has band Google checkout.

So if someone comes along with a auction site, it may attract sellers due to lower costs to process transactions.

I believe you won't see anyone take over the complete auction business, but you may see specialized auctions spring up, for example only musical instruments, or computer hardware. This would prevent the 100's of 99$ junk auctions on ebay.

Its not really the features, its the community that will beat Ebay some day.

Only thing I like about Ebay anymore is bidding on an item being sold by a real person. I hate the "Ebay Superstores" they rip you off and Ebay does nothing too them because they are dealing in tens of thousands of transactions a year. even if they ban a seller, they don't check to see if they open a new account under a new name.

Ebay is corrupt, they don't care about an auction community, they just want volume and sales.

I think ebay will always reign king. If another website was to come along with more options or "better" options, ebay would adopt those and then improve them. It's the world of corporate business, you can't beat the ruler

There are lots of other auction sites out there, many with great features, many are free or inexpensive. Unfortunately none of them have buyers. What few auction bidders are still around still won't leave the preceived safety of ebay.
