Flights from Ghana to London have been cancelled due to hammatan. I would like to know if flights are dangerous during this period, how long does it last, and its effects on people.

Harmattan is one of the seasons in west africa,
it is characterised by dryness and windy conditions.I should imagine that the flights were cancelled becase it was extrememly windy.this is the first i have heard of cancellation of flights due to harmattan so i can assure you it is not an everyday occurence.
By all means if the planes are ok to fly, fly.it should be safe.

rember the harmattan is even more serious than the fog that prevented BA from flying as its windy, with sand particles that makes is hard to see, bit i guess the airlines sometimes just try to look for nice excuses which may not be the case at all

it quite dangerous, it's like a heavy storm and rain under it too, it would be wise to reschedule it.
