I have to write an essay about my goals and I'm having trouble with starting off my essay. How should I start off my essay? I have several drafts but none of them seem to flow. What should I do?? English is not my cup of tea!

Is it true that you should never start off your essay with my name is...?

What is the proper format for writing a short essay?

Do you guys know any websites that give examples of essay writings.

It would be better to not start with "My name is," because the teacher/prof already knows that. You could start the opening paragraph with something kind of generic about setting goals ("Setting goals to accomplish every year seems to be a human compulsion, if to feel a sense of accomplishment or show others that you have progressed in some way..."), and then after another sentence elaborating on that, be sure to include your thesis statement at the end of that paragraph.

The proper format would depend on how long of a "short" essay you're writing, but you could basically just have an intro paragraph, a few paragraphs about your goals, and then a concluding paragraph.

I'm sorry, I haven't had to officially write essays for several years, so I'm not familiar with any current websites about it.

Good luck, hope that helps!

The first paragraph should be an overview of the essay's contents. DO NOT start it off with any personal info such as your name. It should begin with the esaay topic itself to inform the reader of what they are about to read.

For short essays use the "mini skirt" format

1)Short
2)Interesting
3)And still covers all the requirements

Never start out with "my name is" and never "I"

Try this:

Goals are an important way to identify areas in a person's life that are in need of improvement. In order to achieve ones goals, a proper support system must be in place to assure their success. Family and friends can often influence a person's efforts in achieving their goals, both in positive and negative ways.

In my life, I have many goals. (list goals here)...................
My family helps support my efforts by rewarding me when I succeed, but also supporting me and encouraging me if I fail.....
