Way back in June my boss told me she'd give me a raise. I still haven't seen it. How can I ask her and make sure it actually happens? I am a graphic designer and I make $8.25 an hour. I still keep in touch with my college teacher and I told her what I did and she told me that I should easily be making at least $14/hour. How can I get them to "up" my pay so I can make what I deserve? My boss tells me I am a wonderful worker- why am I getting scammed?

I'm a graphics designer too. What I did, was I went to my boss and I told him that my cost of living has gone up and that I needed a little help come the next raise so that my wife and I could make ends meet. She was a stay at home mom and he understood this. Just tell your boss in a closed door, private meeting that you are struggling and that you could use a little help from your hourly wages. It shouldn't take an act from Congress to get her to understand and see that you deserve a raise. Otherwise, if that's not the case, I would look for work somewhere else and ask for at least 14.00 an hour depending on how long you have been at it. Most bosses these days will tell you that a graphics designer these days are a dime a dozen. You have to show her the difference between a graphics designer and a DAMN GOOD Graphics Designer. Good Luck!

Tell her...and play sympathy card a little..."I need a raise...is there any chance you have one coming." You should be making way more than what you are, so if this backfires...and it probably won't...get a job elsewhere...you could make more working at Kinko's at this point...especially if you have a degree!
