It comes from the bonds between the three phosphate molecules of ATP--the triphosphate tail. Those are synthesized by organic molecules, so I suppose that answers your question.

The energy in all the cells including animal cells comes from the breakdown or oxidation of glucose molecules. The glucose(C6H12O6) is the fuel of the cell---provided to cells by way of nutrition. It is provided to the cells regularly. glucose is subjected to oxidation in presence of the oxygen made available to cells by way of inspiration(breathing). The breakdown of glucose is a complex process and takes place at two sites, namely cytoplasm of the cell and mitochondria of the cell. The first phase takes place in cell cytoplasm and is called Glycolysis. It results in the formation of 2 molecules of pyruvic acid and 2ATP.Next, the pyruvic molecules enter the mitochondria where complete breakdown or oxidation takes place and results in the formation 36 ATP molecules in a comprehensive cycle called TCA or Krebs' cycle. It is why mitochondria are called as energy houses of the cell. The glucose is a chemical compound having potential energy which is released stepwise in cytoplasm and mitochondria of the cell. The released energy is entraped by the formation of ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate.

It comes from glucose through a process called glycolysis. this process makes ATP. Glucose is C6H1206. It is one of the most abundant organic molecules in life.

I guess you didn't do very well on your Biology final...The correct answer is organic molecules (like sugar)...The question is asking about animal cells, not plant cells...
