By which process is the potential energy of organic molecules tranferred to a form of energy that is usable by the cells? Is it Photosynthesis or Respiration?

the main sources of organic substances are from living organisms, mainly carbon and hydrogen. it can't be photosynthesis because the main substance is co2, which is inorganic. On the other hand, respiration uses organic substances indirectly. so, the process by which potential energy, PE is transferred from potential to chemical or other forms of energy is eating (food).
