A game system is only as good as teh games on it. Whether you agree with that or not it is true. Games are meant to be fun and the graphics and stuff help it be entertaining.
That being said, you also have to look at prices. Would you buy a system so good that you cry with joy when playing it if its worth a billion dollars?
Personally I would buy the 360. Halo 3 (yes i love halo, no i dont wanna hear any answers to that.), Gears of War, etc. sound like enough to keep me happy for a long while. If the 360 gets some square enix contracts going then PS3 is dead with every last pretty picture it could present.
Off topic: have you SEEN the new halo pics? oh I hope they take some ideas from certain ingenious people... Also, I wanna...one second (puts mp3 in his ears in advance) I like wii. (blares mp3 music)

Basically right now, I would have to say that the XBOX 360 is a better value for your money. This is mostly because the xbox has better titles than the PS3, and much more online gameplay capabilites and great downloadable content. You can also sync the xbox 360 to your pc to play music and pictures, so the 20Gb hard drive is sufficient, at least right now. However, the PS3 is a more powerful system than the 360. Right now there aren't many titles out for it, and the online capabilities are somewhat limited. I'd say that if you were to be in this situation this time next year, buy the PS3. It is going to have more titles and better graphics in the future. So, if you can wait a year for a next generation console, buy the PS3. If you want something right now, and want more bang for your buck, get the 360.

My gut is telling me that the Xbox 360 will be best for online gamers, and the PS3 will be better for single-player gamers. Both will be getting most of the same games, and the games will look nearly the same on both systems, because they will be coded for the slower of the two. Toss in the few franchises, like Halo vs. Killzone - Conker vs. Ratchet - PGR vs. GT, which pretty much cancel each other out. But if you are hooked on one of those, go with that system.
I don't think genre will be as much of an issue this generation. Should be good cross-platform RPG's this time around. And more 3rd party developers are getting on the XBox this time, so more variety of games.
Honestly, the question comes more down to whether or not you want an XBox, PS3, or a Nintendo. The XBox 360 and PS3 are going to be very similar machines as far as content and interface go. The Nintendo will be something else altogether. So I really doubt which of the two you are contemplating will make much difference.

I personally like the XBOX 360 better. But that's just me
The PS3 may have a better processor, but that doesn't mean anything if the game makers aren't going to use all of that power.
If they would actually make the games use the entire processors ability , the games would look even better. But they probably won't ever get around to that.
And yes, I have played both of them. My bestfriend has a 360 and a PS3. He also likes the 360 better.

overall, i would say the 360, b/c ive played the 360 a lot with my friends when we have a halo party, ive also played a ps3 in my electronics class, when we had a party. they both have very nice graphics, but overall the ps3 is no where better than the 360. the 360 is going to have far better games in the future, and it will have better online capabilities.

The majority of the people agree that the PS3 is a better system. However, for the price, most people agree the X Box 360 is the better bargain.

The PS3 will ultimately rule. You can't compare the X360 and PS3 now. From now to about 1 year ahead of us, Sony will have fixed the bugs, game developers will have got used to the PS3's technology and the PS3 library will get bigger and bigger.
Just wait and see.
The match isn't over yet.
The PS3 has much more power than the X360. Even the game discs hold more (54GB compared to 8GB of the X360)

XBox 360
While the PS3 may look more powerful on paper, in practice Microsoft's three core processors win the day.
