I feel for you. The first few weeks are the hardest but eventually you get through it. I hope it's of some comfort to say what you're going through is completely normal. A baby of 5 weeks should be waking every 3 hours for a feed, a burp and a diaper change. If he's not eating, it may be that he IS hungry but CAN'T eat for whatever reason. Doctors and breast feeding consultants could determine if its a problem.
My doctor advised me to sleep when baby sleeps, and if things feel really desperate, call on the help of a family member, friend or neighbour to substitute in for one feeding while you get some rest. In time he'll eat more, and sleep more as will you.

I put my daughter on Gerber rice cereal when she was 8 weeks............ I only give her cereal bottles at night so she'll be full all night. And believe it or not My daughter has been on a schedule ever since then. What I would do is give her a nice warm bath using that Johnsons Lavendar Body Wash (because thats a really soothing scent for babies). And then give her a nice thick cereal bottle right after and continue this routine every night at the same time and your baby will get used to her bed time and start to fall asleep on her own without the bath. The cereal is just to keep them sleep until morning. Good Luck and if all goes well good night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hes only 5 weeks old unfortunalty they just do that he may just want to see whats going on. my son use to do that. So I would put him in his baby rocker and let him look around and then he would calm down stay awake for a half hour or so then fall asleep then sleep for 4 or 5 hours or so. He may just be a curious baby. My mom told me I was that way wanted to see everything didnt want to miss anything. Was he early at all?

I know this isnt going to help but my fifteen month old still does that I try to get her to sleep more but it dont always work. My doctor calls her a high energy baby. I will comfort her tell her to go to sleep and lay back down. I will hear her cry or squirm or just talk for a while than she will go back to sleep. Sleep when she sleeps. Good luck.

I know this is very controversial and I don't know if it is something I would choose to do but I know a great mother of 6 children who has learned that having the baby sleep with her is the best thing. She says it allowed for her and baby to be rested enough and was well worth any drawbacks.

I have heard that having a full tummy will help them sleep longer, but every baby's different. My son is almost 8 months old. Johnson & Johnson's make a calming bath and lotion that are clinically proven (they say) to help baby sleep longer--it's worth a shot!

Well babies wont sleep forever.
And there is nothing weird about your baby getting up every 3 hours. But you can try walking around and singing. Thats what i do, and you can try softly rubbing above the babies eyes. That always works for me.
But be lucky for 3 hours, thats awhile.
But try to get your baby on a schduel.

My son is about 6 weeks old, and his longest stretch is 4 hours. I usually feed him and then burp him, and then rock him to sleep. Sometimes he likes to sleep in his bassinet that vibrates, and other times he likes his swing. Just try to find out what he likes, so when he wakes up to cry, you can try that.
