No trully correct day. It seems to be up to everyone to follow their own inclinations. Those who follow the Anglican tradition of 12th night do wait until after then, but again, that is not an absolute necessity.

I believe the tradition is the 12th day after Christmas, which is 6th January. This is also the Epiphany, when Christians celebrate the coming of the 3 kings/wise men to visit the baby Jesus, which symbolises how He came to save all men, not just "His own" people (the Jews). A superstition is that it's bad luck to leave them up after the twelfth night, and in order to prevent the bad luck, you than have to leave them up all year. I'm taking my decorations down tomorrow, but if you don't agree with the tradition/superstition, take them down when it suits you!

Christmas is twelve days long (think of the song: on the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...). The twelfth day is the 5th of January, so take them down on the 6th.
