The moon is like our meteor deflector. The gravity on the moon is 1/6 that of earth and approx 286,000 miles from us. A body that is far out would appear near us . as it gets cloister ,if the moon is right we could get a good deflection. It could cause a near miss.If it hits and is a few miles in diameter it could be bad.

In general, not much of anything can be done. If we have a lot of advance warning about one specific body on a collision course (a few years) we might be able to divert its orbit somewhat. The trouble is though, that there are millions of of such bodies in the asteroid belt, and they can be knocked out of their current orbits by collisions with other asteroids, and on a path towards earth with little warning. They can also approach the earth from the direction of the sun, which would make them almost invisible. Then, there is the problem of long period comets that we have no orbital data on paying a surprise visit to the earth.

Nothing. There is no way to identify a NEO (Near Earth Object) such as a meteor. Anything large enough to be identified would be too big to do anything about. Imagine one person standing at each end of a foot ball field and each person throwing a golf ball at the same time and trying to get the golf balls to hit each other in mid air, that is how likely it would be for something big enough to destroy earth to actually hit earth. Possible but not very likely.

Actually, right now, there is not much that can be done. A large enough asteroid (it doesn't become a meteorite until it actually enters the atmosphere) will arrive and there is not much we can currently do about it. The technology is POSSIBLY there, currently, but the processes are not in place to utilize them. We would need about 10 years to effectively implement any plan. Sorry!

Well this might be the only time the whole world works together. So we would probably shot a rocket in to it , but if it's to big we would have to land on it ,and dig it a half at a certain time,or point ,so it can go around the world.
