Cat brings flowers or a candle that smells good. Depends on the person (or critter) who invited her. If they're the sort of peeple who don't appreciate cut flowers, then the candle. It's almost always a good gift, and if you choose one in a scent they're fond of, it's valued more than if you just pick one. Cowincidentally, Cat took one in the shape of a beautiful Dragon to one of her friends...the friend wouldn't burn it, but treasured it for it's looks!
yer welcome!

I usually like to bring wine from a local vineyard (I live near a wine trail). If I think that the hosts might not drink I ask what they're serving for dinner and bring something to compliment it (I only do this with friends who are not anal retentive about their cooking). Some other gifts might be flowers or Yankee candles.

I usually do. And, if they enjoy wine, I bring along a nice bottle of wine and some table water crackers. If they don't drink alcohol, I try to bring something like a small scented candle and holder. Or, if you know they enjoy reading, you could bring a book that you have enjoyed reading and want to share. I never go overboard as far as the cost of the item, instead I try to give something that says, "Thanks for the invite!"

A bottle of wine is nice, But thats only if you dont see them much, someone you see everyday that is a close friend you know you dont have to bring anything. Close friends could careless. A 30$ bottle of Stags Leap would fit nicely @ the dinner

Always a bottle of wine without fail. Occasionally have also brought small gift such as a candle, small plant or other decorative item for the home.

A bottle of wine is usually the normal gesture. Unless its more casual. In which case a 12pk of beer. Know your host/hostess,

The only dinners I get invited to lately are my very close friends and I don't take them anything, I usually stop by to visit and they say, "Get you a plate!" But, let's see, a dessert would be nice or a bouquet of flowers.

Yes. Ask first if they would like you to bring anything.
If they say no, still bring something very small like a small box of chocolates, or a bottle of wine (IF you know what you're eating, and you know if it should be white or red)

I've never taken a gift...unless it's their b-day or Christmas. I usually will ask if they need me to bring anything and I would take soda..chips..a dessert...a side dish or something
