I’m usually a bit on the irregular side with my cycle, but I am concerned because there was an “accident”… needless to say, I’m extremely preoccupied with the whole thing. I think I should be due in about a week or two… like I said, I’m very irregular sometimes up to three months between my cycles. So, my dilemma.. how long should I wait before taking a test? This incident happened last week, about two weeks (roughly) before the start of my next cycle… and since that is a bit unpredictable, I can’t really know for sure.
So how much longer do I wait before taking the test, and WHAT do I do to distract myself from this in the meantime?

You can take a test 19 days after the day you think you became pregnant and get an accurate result.

You can take a pregnancy test up to 5 days before your missed period, but odds of effectiveness are not as high as if you took them a week after your missed period. If you are usually irregular, I would not stress it to much, I am also very irregular, and I used to stress all the time, once I became sexually active, but take a test, if you feel that the test is not correct or still feel you may be pregnant wait 2 weeks and take another, you can always see you doctor as well. Good Luck!

If you are 8 days late, it is probably pretty accurate. That being said, if you happen to have ovulated later than usual, then implantation would have occured later and may cause it to take longer for the pregnancy hormon (hcg) to be elevated enough to be detected by a hpt. If you can, give it another week and retest if you haven't started. Better yet, make an appt with your Ob/Gyn. They can do a blood test which is the most accuate. You should alert them to your missed period if it hasn't started by next week regardless of the results of the pregnancy test, Good Luck!

If you think conception happened last week you need to wait a total of 9 days to do a blood test. So count out the days from last week and see where you're at. I am pretty sure that is correct, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

First, RELAX, this could be causing your missed period. Second, make an appointment with an OB/GYN. Tell them your story and ask for a blood test. These are almost 100% accurate. In the meantime, settle down, relax, and pamper yourself just in case. (I know easier said than done) Good luck!
