this is adjusting the position of the brushes with respect to the field to obtain best performance. The optimum position will vary according to the speed of the motor. The position is normally fixed at manufacture for the intended duty, and is rarely user adjustable

First you do this.... then that..... turn it this way a bit.... push that bit in... and screw it back together. Easy!
